From Storytelling to Self-Discovery
Shannon Rodgers’ Journey Through the Lantern Network

When Shannon Rodgers walked through her alma mater’s career fair, she wasn’t expecting to find a program that would change her life. But one conversation at a table opened the door to mentorship, growth, and community through The Lantern Network.
A 2023 graduate of Cleveland State University with a BA in English and Creative Writing, Shannon is passionate about storytelling in all forms—screenplays, short stories, plays, and novels. But what she’s found at TLN is something that’s helped her strengthen her real-world story, too.
“I joined TLN to sharpen my soft skills,” she shares. “The workshops have bee incredibly helpfu—especially in areas like negotiation and financial literacy.”
Shannon, who describes herself as more introverted, has embraced the opportunity to step outside of her comfort zone, especially through the professional development workshops that teach communication, self-advocacy, and networking.
But what stood out the most for Shannon? Her mentor.
“She cares not just about my career, but my personal journey,” Shannon says. “She even invited me to write blogs for her nonprofit and guided me through every step. It’s been an amazing experience.”
With a heart full of stories and a mind ready to edit, Shannon is now focused on gaining more professional experience in proofreading and copy editing while working on her first book—set to release soon.
As she puts it, “The Lantern Network has given me more tools for my toolbox—skills that help me not only speak up, but reach out.”
